Protein is essential to the body and your hair. It is a building block of your hair so lack of protein can lead to unhealthy hair that is prone to damage. The use of protein treatment is designed to replenish the nutrients and vitamins that are lost in your hair due to a wide range of reasons such as exposure to heat styling tools or lack of care.

Not sure if you need to use protein treatment on your hair? These are cases wherein it is absolutely necessary.

High Porosity Hair

Hair that has a high porosity level is most prone to damage. Due to the gaps in each strand, it becomes more susceptible to absorbing various elements that can make your hair look frizzy or tangled easily. In fact, it can also be difficult to absorb colour during hair treatment. It is therefore important to get regular protein treatment on highly porous hair in order to replenish all of the nutrients that it has lost. Moreover, adding more protein into the system will help to seal those gaps so as to prevent damage to your hair too.

Limp Hair

Limpness or being stringy are two common signs that your hair is in need of protein treatment. Hair that is healthy tends to be full and durable. When you notice your strands start to droop, you need to revitalise those strands in order to make them healthy again.

Loss of Elasticity

Does your hair lose its natural capacity to curl when styled? It could be that your hair is losing its elasticity. Hair that lacks elasticity is in need of protein treatment. You need to perform a test in order to check if your hair is still elastic or not. Take a strand of your hair and wet it with water. Once wet, try to stretch that strand and see if it goes back to its original length once you release the pressure applied to it. If it breaks, then your hair is no longer elastic.

Colour Treatment

Colouring your hair exposes your strands to the chemical formula of the hair colour treatment. This causes a change in your hair’s texture. If you do it often, it can cause a break down of the bonds on your hair resulting in split ends, dryness and other similar hair problems. It is therefore recommended that you undergo a protein treatment for your hair prior to getting a hair colour treatment. This will provide a strong base for the hair colour to become longer lasting and to also prevent damage on your hair post-treatment. This extra step that you can take makes your hair extra strong despite the exposure to the chemicals from the hair colour.
