Sebastian Thickefy Foam
Sebastian Thickefy Foam
"I read the reviews of this product on this site and decided to try it. To be honest I was somewhat sceptical that it would do what it says. I have very fine hair and since going through menopause my hair has thinned badly which has been awful for my self esteem. This product is fabulous!! Its weightless, easy to apply and makes my hair look and feel thicker and fuller. As well as using it before blowdrying my hair, I use it on non shampooing days to boost my hair. Its not sticky and doesnt leave your hair "crunchy" Its truly my secret weapon and I love it more that any other hair product Ive ever tried" - Janet

Directions
Ingredients
  • PVP Thickeners and stabilisers
    Film-forming polymer

PVP is a film-forming ingredient that helps provide hold and structure in styling products.

    May suit

Anyone looking for longer-lasting hold, enhanced definition or improved style memory.

    Worth knowing

It is widely used in gels, mousses and sprays because it creates a flexible film on the hair shaft. Its performance can vary with humidity, so it is often blended with other polymers for stability.

  • Phenoxyethanol Preservatives
    Preservative

Helps keep the product stable and pleasant to use after opening.

    May suit

All products that need protecting from spoilage.

    Worth knowing

A very common, well-studied preservative used at low levels.

  • Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine Cleansers / surfactants
    Mild surfactant

A gentle, foam-boosting surfactant that helps cleanse hair without excessive stripping.

    May suit

Those looking for mild cleansing, including people with dry, curly or colour-treated hair.

    Worth knowing

It is commonly used alongside other surfactants to create a balanced, gentle cleansing system. It can also help improve the texture and thickness of formulations.

  • Methylparaben Preservatives
    Preservative

Helps protect haircare products by preventing microbial spoilage.

    May suit

Anyone who wants products to stay fresh and stable over time.

    Worth knowing

Parabens like methylparaben are widely used because they are effective in very small amounts and have a long history of use in cosmetics. They help maintain product quality, especially in water-based formulas.

  • PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil Cleansers / surfactants
    Solubiliser and emulsifier

Helps blend oils and fragrance into water-based formulas for even texture and performance.

    May suit

Useful for those who prefer haircare products with clear, consistent textures or evenly dispersed fragrance and oils.

    Worth knowing

It is widely used in shampoos, conditioners and styling products to keep formulations stable and smooth. It also offers mild surfactant properties that support product rinse-off.

  • Disodium EDTA Chelating agents
    Chelating agent

Binds to minerals from hard water so the product works consistently and stays stable.

    May suit

All products, especially in hard-water areas.

    Worth knowing

Used in tiny amounts to keep formulas performing reliably.

  • Cetrimonium Chloride Conditioning agents
    Conditioning agent

A conditioning agent that helps smooth and soften the hair while reducing static and tangles.

    May suit

People looking for improved manageability, detangling and smoother-feeling hair.

    Worth knowing

It is a commonly used quaternary ammonium compound that helps conditioners spread easily through the hair. It is effective even at low levels, which is why it appears frequently in rinse-off products.

  • Citric Acid pH adjusters
    pH adjuster

Fine-tunes the product pH, which can help the hair surface feel smooth.

    May suit

Most hair types as part of a balanced formula.

    Worth knowing

Usually present in small amounts to balance the formula.

  • Tocopheryl Acetate Conditioning agents
    Antioxidant and conditioning support

A stable form of vitamin E used to help condition hair and support product stability.

    May suit

Those looking for added conditioning support or antioxidant benefits in their haircare.

    Worth knowing

It is commonly used because it is more stable than pure vitamin E while still offering similar benefits. It appears in many leave-in and rinse-off formulations.

  • Linalool Fragrance ingredients
    Fragrance component

A fragrance component found naturally in many flowers and spices.

    Worth knowing

A fragrance component that must be listed separately on labels because a minority of people can be sensitive to it. Its presence is normal, required disclosure and is not a quality signal.

  • Hexyl Cinnamal Fragrance ingredients
    Fragrance component

A fragrance ingredient used to give products a light, floral scent.

    May suit

Those who enjoy subtly scented haircare products.

    Worth knowing

It is one of the fragrance components that must be listed separately when present above certain levels. People with known fragrance sensitivities may choose to monitor for it.

  • Benzyl Salicylate Fragrance ingredients
    Fragrance component

Benzyl Salicylate is a fragrance ingredient used to add a sweet, floral aroma to haircare products.

    May suit

Those who enjoy subtly floral-scented haircare or are monitoring specific fragrance allergens.

    Worth knowing

It is one of the fragrance allergens that must be listed individually on product labels when present above certain levels. Its presence does not indicate product strength or quality, only that it contributes to the overall scent profile.

  • Benzyl Alcohol Preservatives
    Preservative

Helps preserve formulations and can also act as a solvent or light fragrance component.

    May suit

Those interested in understanding preservative systems or identifying potential fragrance allergens.

    Worth knowing

Benzyl Alcohol is commonly used in professional haircare to support product stability and texture. It can also naturally occur in some essential oils.

  • Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde Fragrance ingredients
    Fragrance component

A synthetic fragrance ingredient used to add a fresh, floral scent to haircare products.

    May suit

Those interested in identifying specific fragrance components in their products.

    Worth knowing

It is one of the fragrance allergens that brands must list separately on product labels when present above certain thresholds. Its inclusion does not indicate product quality; it simply helps with transparent fragrance disclosure.

  • Citronellol Fragrance ingredients
    Fragrance component

A fragrance component with a soft floral, rose-like character.

    Worth knowing

A fragrance component that must be listed separately on labels because a minority of people can be sensitive to it. Its presence is normal, required disclosure and is not a quality signal.

  • Benzyl Benzoate Fragrance ingredients
    Fragrance component

A fragrance component that is listed separately on labels by labelling convention.

    Worth knowing

A fragrance component that must be listed separately on labels because a minority of people can be sensitive to it. Its presence is normal, required disclosure and is not a quality signal.
