It’s best to use foil shavers on hair that is no longer than 1-2 millimeters, such as after a trim or for maintaining a clean shave. For longer hair, it’s advisable to use a trimmer first to reduce the length before switching to a foil shaver.

Foil shavers have a thin metal screen (foil) with small holes. This screen captures short hairs and guides them to the oscillating blades underneath. If the hair is too long, it may not enter the holes efficiently, making it difficult for the blades to cut.
