"Really easy to use. Lasts between 4-6 months, depending on whether I get my hair layered. Very curly at the beginning, but does drop and loosen to a nice wave after about a month. The smell is horrendous, but it’s so quick to use and I only have to do it twice a year, that it’s worth it! I could get the gentler version of this perm because my hair isn’t resistant, but although they are just as good, they don’t last as long. Tip- if you don’t want a “poodle perm”, using bigger perm rods will help, as well as missing some sections of your hair when winding around the perm rods. This gives a slightly shaggy look, depending on how much hair you leave out. Note- don’t leave out chunks of hair! Just when sectioning your hair to wind around the perm rods, don’t wind all the strands of hair around the rod." - Sheeian

Description

Features:
1 x Innovative Permanent Wave Lotion (125ml)
1 x Innovative Neutralizer (125ml)

Innovative Haircare Perm 1R is a perming System for normal to resistant hair. This professional-strength perm solution creates firm, long-lasting curls or waves. Designed for resistant or hard-to-curl hair, this formula works by gently reshaping the internal bonds of each strand, helping your new texture hold its shape for longer.

Used with traditional perm rods, it creates defined movement that feels springy rather than stiff. The liquid texture saturates hair evenly, ensuring consistent results from roots to ends. Ideal for experienced home users or salon professionals working on natural, untreated, or resistant hair. Once neutralised and rinsed, hair is ready to style into your chosen curly or wavy look, leaving you with a finish that feels shaped, bouncy and easier to manage day to day.

Directions

How To Use Innovative Perm 1R

Shampoo hair without conditioner and gently towel-dry until damp, not dripping.
Perform a strand and sensitivity test according to perm best practice.
Section hair and wind evenly onto suitable perm rods for desired curl size.
Apply Perm 1R carefully to each rod until hair is thoroughly saturated.
Cover with a plastic cap and process for the manufacturer-recommended time, checking curls regularly.
Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water for at least 5 minutes without removing rods.
Gently blot excess water from each rod with a towel or tissues.
Apply neutraliser as directed, leave for the required time, then rinse well.
Remove rods carefully, rinse again if required, and style as desired.
Avoid shampooing for at least 48 hours to help curls set.

Aqua Solvents

Solvent

The water base that carries and dissolves the other ingredients in most products.

All hair and skin types.

Worth knowing
Almost always the first ingredient listed in water-based products.
Ammonium Hydroxide pH adjusters

pH adjuster

Helps adjust and maintain the desired pH level of a formula.

May suit
People using hair colour or chemical processing products where precise pH control is important.

Worth knowing
It is often used in small amounts to support product stability or to activate certain hair colour technologies. In finished products, its concentration is formulated to be appropriate for its intended function.
Cetearyl Alcohol Conditioning agents

Fatty alcohol conditioner

A fatty alcohol that helps soften hair and improve the texture of formulations.

May suit
People looking for smoother, more manageable hair or richer, creamier product textures.

Worth knowing
Despite the name, fatty alcohols are moisturising and conditioning rather than drying. They also help stabilise and thicken many haircare formulas.
Ceteareth-20 Cleansers / surfactants

Emulsifier and surfactant

Helps blend oil- and water-based ingredients to create a smooth, stable formula.

May suit
Those who prefer products with a creamy, uniform texture.

Worth knowing

Parfum Fragrance ingredients

Fragrance

Gives the product its scent.

May suit
People who enjoy a scented product.

Worth knowing
Fragrance preference is personal. Some people prefer fragrance-free formulas by choice.
Disodium EDTA Chelating agents

Chelating agent

Binds to minerals from hard water so the product works consistently and stays stable.

May suit
All products, especially in hard-water areas.

Worth knowing
Used in tiny amounts to keep formulas performing reliably.
Sodium Stannate Thickeners and stabilisers

Stabiliser

Sodium Stannate is used as a stabilising aid to help maintain the performance of certain haircare formulations.

May suit
People using peroxide-based hair colour or lightening products where stabilisers help keep the formula consistent.

Worth knowing
It appears most often in technical or professional products that require ingredients to support formula stability over time. It is typically used at low levels for functional support rather than for a direct effect on the hair.
Citric Acid pH adjusters

pH adjuster

Fine-tunes the product pH, which can help the hair surface feel smooth.

May suit
Most hair types as part of a balanced formula.

Worth knowing
Usually present in small amounts to balance the formula.
Sodium Chloride Thickeners and stabilisers

Viscosity adjuster

Sodium Chloride is used to adjust the thickness of shampoos and other cleansing formulas.

May suit
Those interested in how a product’s texture and lather are achieved.

Worth knowing
It is a simple mineral salt that helps create a familiar shampoo feel and can influence how a cleanser spreads through the hair.
Sodium Hydroxide pH adjusters

pH adjuster

Helps control and stabilise the pH of haircare formulations.

May suit
Those interested in how product pH affects scalp comfort or hair cuticle behaviour.

Worth knowing
It is used in very small amounts to bring a formula to the desired pH range. Once adjusted, it does not act as a strong alkaline agent in the finished product.
Methylparaben Preservatives

Preservative

Helps protect haircare products by preventing microbial spoilage.

May suit
Anyone who wants products to stay fresh and stable over time.

Worth knowing
Parabens like methylparaben are widely used because they are effective in very small amounts and have a long history of use in cosmetics. They help maintain product quality, especially in water-based formulas.
Propylparaben Preservatives

Preservative

Helps keep haircare formulas stable by preventing the growth of microbes.

May suit
Anyone using products that benefit from a long, reliable shelf life.

Worth knowing
Propylparaben is a widely used preservative that helps maintain product quality and freshness. It is used at very low levels and is well studied for its role in keeping formulations stable.
