Anyone using liquid haircare products, as water is a core component.

Worth knowing
It helps create a workable texture and allows surfactants, conditioners and other actives to perform effectively.
Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil Oils and butters

Nourishing plant oil

A lightweight plant oil that helps condition and soften the hair.

May suit
Those seeking added softness, shine, or help with dry or coarse hair.

Worth knowing
It is commonly used in haircare for its smooth, silky feel and its ability to support moisture retention. It is generally well tolerated by most hair types.
Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil Oils and butters

Nourishing plant oil

A moisturising plant oil that helps soften and condition the hair.

May suit
Those seeking added smoothness, shine or scalp comfort.

Worth knowing
Sesame seed oil is rich in fatty acids that support softness and manageability in many hair types. It is often used in treatments, masks and leave-ins for its lightweight conditioning feel.
Zinc Oxide UV filters

UV filter and protectant

Zinc Oxide helps protect hair and scalp from UV exposure and can also provide opacity in formulations.

May suit
Those looking for added UV protection in outdoor or colour-care hair products.

Worth knowing
It is a mineral UV filter that sits on the surface to reflect and scatter UV rays. In haircare it is used at lower levels than in sunscreens and may also contribute to a product’s creamy appearance.
Cera Alba (Beeswax) Thickeners and stabilisers

Thickener and styling aide

A natural wax used to thicken formulas and provide light hold and conditioning.

May suit
People looking for products that add gentle control, smoothness or texture.

Worth knowing
Beeswax can help lock in moisture and give hair a soft, pliable finish. It is commonly used in balms, pomades and creams for shape and definition.
Lanolin Conditioning agents

Emollient conditioning agent

Lanolin helps soften and condition hair by forming a protective, moisturising film.

May suit
Those with very dry, coarse or textured hair that benefits from richer conditioning.

Worth knowing
Lanolin is derived from wool wax and is valued for its ability to boost softness and shine. It can feel rich, so it is typically used in small amounts in modern formulas.
Hectorite Thickeners and stabilisers

Thickener

A mineral clay used to thicken and stabilise haircare formulations.

May suit
Those who prefer products with a smooth, consistent texture or styling products that stay in place.

Worth knowing
Hectorite helps suspend other ingredients evenly so a product feels uniform from first use to last. It also contributes to a soft, non‑greasy finish in many styling and conditioning formulas.
Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract Botanical extracts

Soothing botanical extract

A plant extract used to help soothe and condition the scalp and hair.

May suit
Those looking for gentle, plant-derived ingredients that support scalp comfort.
