Every Clever Curl product has been developed with the Curly Girl Method in mind. The range avoids traditional sulphate cleansers and includes options for different hair textures, porosity levels, moisture needs and climates.
Rather than recommending the same routine for every curl type, Clever Curl allows you to adjust the amount of cleansing, conditioning, moisture and hold your hair receives. Fine waves may prefer lightweight conditioning and styling, while dry, coarse or highly porous curls may benefit from richer moisture and stronger sealing products.

Begin with the Clever Curl Cleanser, cleansing twice and massaging the scalp thoroughly during each cleanse.
Fine hair generally responds well to the Light Conditioner, while coarse, dry or thirsty curls may prefer the Rich Conditioner. The Curl Treatment can replace your conditioner when extra moisture is needed.
For styling, choose Wonderfoam when you want lightweight moisture, body and medium hold. Choose Curl Cream when your hair needs richer moisture and definition without hold.
You can then finish with a gel. The Dry Weather Clever Gel attracts moisture and is useful for curls that need additional hydration. The Humid Weather Clever Gel helps seal moisture into hydrated curls and defend against humid conditions.

Is the range Curly Girl Approved?
Yes. The entire Clever Curl range was designed with the Curly Girl Method in mind, and all Clever Curl products are Curly Girl Method approved.
Is Clever Curl made in Australia?
Yes. Clever Curl is Australian owned, and its products are manufactured in Australia. The company also sources items such as bottles, labels and marketing materials from Australian suppliers where possible.
Is Clever Curl packaging recyclable?
Yes. Clever Curl bottles are made in Australia from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic, including recycled milk bottles, and can be recycled again. Slight differences in the colour of the bottles may occur because recycled milk-bottle lids are included in the plastic stream.
Is Clever Curl safe for coloured hair?
Yes. Clever Curl products are suitable for coloured hair and do not contain sulphates, which can contribute to colour fading and stripping.
Are all ingredients in Clever Curl products safe for use on young children?
Clever Curl advises that its ingredients are safe for children of any age. The formulas use Geogard ECT as a preservative at a very low concentration. As with any personal-care product, use your own discretion and perform a patch test before applying a new product to a young child.
Does Clever Curl test on animals?
No. Clever Curl does not test its finished products or ingredients on animals and states that it will not do so in the future. The brand is accredited by Safe Cosmetics Australia.
Where can I buy Clever Curl products?
Clever Curl products are available from My Haircare & Beauty in-store only. They are not currently available to purchase from us online.
My Clever Curl product is a different colour from the last one. Is it safe to use?
Yes. Clever Curl products are produced in small batches, so minor colour variations can occur. This does not mean the product is unsafe or that its performance has changed.
What Clever Curl products will suit my hair and curl type?
Start with the Cleanser and select a conditioner according to your texture. Fine hair generally suits the Light Conditioner, while dry or coarse hair may prefer the Rich Conditioner or Curl Treatment. Wonderfoam offers lightweight moisture and hold, while Curl Cream provides richer moisture without hold. Finish with Dry Weather Gel when more hydration is needed or Humid Weather Gel when you want to seal moisture into hydrated curls.
I have high-porosity hair. Which Clever Curl products will suit me best?
High-porosity hair generally benefits from richer moisture and protein because it can absorb moisture quickly but struggle to retain it. Clever Curl recommends the Cleanser, Rich Conditioner or Curl Treatment, Curl Cream or Wonderfoam, and Humid Weather Clever Gel to help lock hydration into the hair.
I have low-porosity hair. Which Clever Curl products will suit me best?
Low-porosity hair can be prone to product build-up because its tightly bound cuticle makes it more difficult for moisture to penetrate. A lighter routine using the Cleanser, Light Conditioner, Wonderfoam and Dry Weather Clever Gel may be more suitable. Occasional use of a Curly Girl-friendly low-lather shampoo may help if build-up persists.
I'm experiencing an itchy scalp. What should I do?
An itchy scalp may indicate that more thorough cleansing is required. Cleanse twice on wash day, massaging the scalp with firm fingertip pressure for approximately one minute during each cleanse. The first cleanse helps remove oils, products and environmental residue, while the second cleans the scalp and hair more thoroughly. Seek professional advice if irritation continues or is severe.
I'm new to the Curly Girl Method. How do I use Clever Curl products?
Begin with a simple cleanse, condition and style routine. Cleanse twice, apply your chosen conditioner using plenty of water, and then apply Wonderfoam or Curl Cream to wet hair. Follow with your preferred Clever Gel when hold is required. Allow the hair to dry completely before gently scrunching away any firm gel cast.
Will the Cleanser clean my hair and scalp?
Yes. Although the Cleanser does not create traditional bubbles or lather, it is designed to clean the hair and scalp. Clever Curl recommends cleansing twice to help prevent oil and product build-up.
Is the Clever Curl Cleanser suitable for oily or sensitive scalps?
Yes. The Cleanser does not contain sulphates or harsh cleansing ingredients. It gently cleanses without creating the heavy lather that may irritate sensitive scalps. For oily scalps, two thorough cleanses are recommended to remove oil, dirt and product residue.
Can I co-wash with the conditioners?
The Light and Rich Conditioners can be used for co-washing. However, Clever Curl recommends using its dedicated Cleanser because it is specifically formulated to clean the scalp and hair while helping prepare the hair to receive water and conditioning ingredients.
What is the difference between the Light and Rich Conditioner?
The Light Conditioner contains a lighter level of moisture and protein and is better suited to fine hair or curls that are easily weighed down. The Rich Conditioner provides more moisture and protein, making it suitable for dry, coarse or thirsty hair.
What is the difference between the Curl Treatment and Curl Cream?
Curl Treatment is primarily a rinse-out wash-day product. It can replace conditioner when the hair needs a more intensive moisture boost, although some hair types may use a small amount as a leave-in. Curl Cream is a styling product designed to remain in the hair. It provides moisture, shine and definition but no styling hold.
Can I use the Curl Treatment if I have fine hair?
Yes. Curl Treatment can be used on all hair types. Fine hair should begin with a small amount and will generally benefit from rinsing it out thoroughly. It can be used once or twice a fortnight in place of conditioner when additional moisture is needed.
What is the difference between Wonderfoam and Curl Cream?
Wonderfoam is a lightweight leave-in styler that provides body, bounce, shine, definition and medium hold. It can suit all hair types but is especially useful for finer curls and waves. Curl Cream offers maximum moisture, shine and definition but provides no hold, making it better suited to thirsty or coarser textures.
Are Clever Curl products gluten- and wheat-free?
Yes. Clever Curl states that all products in the range are gluten- and wheat-free.
Is the Blonde Curl Treatment safe to use often?
Yes. The Blonde Curl Treatment uses natural pigments from blue gardenia berries and red sweet potato. It is designed to reduce brassiness without over-toning the hair or turning curls purple. Follow the recommended application time according to whether you want subtle maintenance or a stronger toning result.
What makes Curl Oil safe for curls?
Clever Curl Curl Oil is made with naturally derived, non-comedogenic oils selected to nourish without creating a difficult-to-remove coating. The oils are designed to penetrate the hair and provide moisture, while excess product can be removed with a gentle cleanser or low-lather shampoo.
Is Curl Oil safe for skin?
Yes. The formula is non-comedogenic, meaning its selected oils are not intended to clog pores. As individual sensitivities can vary, patch testing is still recommended before applying it widely to the skin.
Will Curl Oil weigh down finer hair types?
